Hubble imaged the comet’s coma, the nebulous envelope of mud and fuel that encompass the comet’s nucleus, its rock-and-ice core. The coma measures 18,000 km (11,000 miles) throughout.
Researchers will additional examine the Hubble photographs to find out the character of the mud that surrounds Comet NEOWISE, partially to see how warmth from the comet’s passage close to the Solar modified the properties of its mud.
