Seyfert galaxies resemble quasars, with extraordinarily luminous cores thought to harbour supermassive black holes. However in contrast to quasars, which shine with a brilliance that masks particulars of the host galaxy, Seyfert galaxies are clearly seen, nearer and fewer luminous than their extra energetic cousins. Seyfert galaxies resemble quasars, with extraordinarily luminous cores thought to harbour supermassive black holes. However in contrast to quasars, which shine with a brilliance that masks particulars of the host galaxy, Seyfert galaxies are clearly seen, nearer and fewer luminous than their extra energetic cousins. The prototypical instance is Messier 77. NGC 1566, pictured right here, is one other gorgeous instance, the second brightest Seyfert galaxy but found. Situated some 40 million mild years from Earth within the constellation Dorado, NGC 1566 is the brightest member of the Dorado Group of galaxies and is classed as an intermediate spiral galaxy, one that doesn’t have a well-defined “bar” in its central area.
